Indian Government Hints at Possible Stop of Mobile Phone Imports

According to a report by Telecomworldwire, Indian Minister of Information Technologies and Telecommunications, Dayanidhi Maran, recently stated that India might stop importing fully-assembled mobile phones by the second quarter of 2007. By then, major mobile phone production facilities in India will have come online, with 80% of mobile phones for the Indian domestic market manufactured in the city of Chennai.
